Van Brede Welvaart naar Bruto Twents Geluk
Twente Board staat aan de lat voor de sociaaleconomische agenda van Twente. We zijn verantwoordelijk voor het investeren in het versterken van de economie, het verbeteren van het innovatieklimaat en het positioneren van Twente in Nederland en in de rest van de wereld. Samen met ondernemers, overheid en onderwijs werken we aan een groene technologische topregio.

Waar we voorheen de groene technologische topregio zagen als einddoel, beschouwen we dit nu meer als middel om de Brede Welvaart, oftewel Het Bruto Twents Geluk, te verhogen. Want een regio met een goede economie, mooie banen en voldoende opleidingskansen, een fijne plek om te wonen en ruimte om jezelf te ontwikkelen, vergroot de kans op tevredenheid of geluk in het algemeen. Geluk gaat dus voor een belangrijk deel over dingen in de dagelijkse leefomgeving van mensen.
We hebben zeker niet de illusie dat we alle inwoners in Twente gelukkig kunnen maken. Maar we denken dat we door de unieke en gelijkwaardige samenwerking tussen overheid, onderwijs en ondernemers wel invloed kunnen uitoefenen op een aantal factoren die naast de economische factoren ook bijdragen aan het collectieve geluk van de Tukker.
Waar het Bruto Twents Geluk een optelsom is van zaken die maken dat het in Twente goed wonen, werken en leven is, gaat het bij Netto Geluk om het geluk van ieder individu afzonderlijk. Het Netto Geluk is heel persoonlijk en daarom voor iedereen anders. Waar de één gelukkig wordt van nieuwe schoenen, een gewonnen voetbalwedstrijd of een avondje stappen met vrienden, vindt de ander het geluk in de liefde, meditatie of goede relaties. Dit zijn allemaal zaken waar we als Twente Board geen invloed op hebben.

From Broad Prosperity to 'Bruto Twents Geluk'
As a collaboration of government, entrepreneurs and educational institutions, Twente Board is responsible for the socio-economic agenda of Twente. Together, we are responsible for investing in strengthening the economy, improving the innovation climate, and positioning Twente in the Netherlands and the rest of the world. Together with entrepreneurs, government, and education, we are working towards a green technological top region.
But where we used to see this green technological top region as the end goal, we now see it as a means to increase Broad Prosperity, or 'Bruto Twents Geluk'. Because a region with a strong economy, good jobs, ample educational opportunities, a pleasant place to live, and room for personal development increases the likelihood of happiness in general. Happiness is therefore largely about things in the daily living environment of people.
No illusions
We certainly do not have the illusion that we can make all residents of Twente happy. But we believe that through the unique and equal collaboration between government, educational institutions and entrepreneurs, we can influence some factors that contribute to the collective happiness of the people in Twente.
Gross versus net happiness
While 'Bruto Twents Geluk' is a sum of factors that make Twente a good place to live, work, leisure, and recreate, Net Happiness is about the happiness of each individual separately. Net Happiness is very personal and therefore different for everyone. While one person may find happiness in new shoes, winning a soccer match, or a night out with friends, another may find happiness in love, meditation, or good relationships. These are factors that we, as Twente Board, do not have control over.
