As a Product Manager at Universal Electronics, I am responsible for the development of the Smart Home Category within the EMEAI region and I have to make sure that it is in line with the overall UEI strategy and vision. This means that I have to manage the entire product life cycle from the strategic planning all the way up to the operational activities during the product launch and support.
Of course, I cannot do this alone so I work closely with the Product Marketing Managers at UEI who provide the market requirements for the business-to-business and business-to-consumer channels. To translate these requirements into products we create product requirement documents, which describe the features and user stories of a product. These will be reviewed by our lead engineers and translated into (interactive) product specifications and rapid prototypes. Once the product is clearly defined, we kick of the actual development of the product.
Right now, I mainly work on products that consist of both hardware and software and most of them are connected to the internet so the environment where I work in is super dynamic. I am learning each day more and more about wireless technologies, industrial design, software development, user interfaces and mechanical engineering, which gives me a lot of energy.
What I really like about my job is that I am exposed to all kinds of new technologies; I have always been a gadget freak by nature so I am happy that I have the opportunity to work at a company that is a market leader in this industry. Because it is so dynamic, you have to keep adapting and adjusting to stay competitive. Next to this, I also have to travel a lot for my work around the globe, which is off course a great way to meet new people and work together with customers and other big names in the industry.
