Collect solar heat

Solar electricity is the most sustainable form of electricity because no harmful substances and greenhouse gases are released during its production. Because it can be produced and consumed at the same location, there are almost no transport losses. Even though everyone knows that the sun provides heat, not everyone is convinced of cooking and washing using solar energy. Some frequently asked questions:

  • How much electricity does a solar panel generate? Also, will devices in my home still work if the sun is not shining?
  • What happens with the generated energy?
  • At which point in time does the generated electricity compensate for the purchasing price of solar panels or solar boilers?

Under the sun in Twente

The number of solar panels is increasing every year. Good news, because this way the share of green electricity is growing. Aside from the fact that solar panels are sustainable, they often are a cheaper alternative to mains power.

The amount of energy that can be generated with a solar panel is also growing. Due to new technologies, solar panels can convert more solar energy into electricity. In Twente, we develop techniques that help to give solar energy an even brighter future. For example, through inventions of the University of Twente such as the Solar Car and Solar Boat. The large solar park of Twence in Hengelo also produces much solar energy.
