Global Goal 3: Good health and well-being

Ensuring healthy lives and promoting well-being at all ages is essential to sustainable development. Significant strides have been made in increasing life expectancy and reducing some of the common killers associated with child and maternal mortality. Significant progress has been made in improving access to clean water and sanitation, reducing diseases such as malaria, tuberculosis, polio and the spread of HIV / AIDS.

Ensure good health and a good lifestyle

Many more efforts are needed to fully eradicate a wide range of diseases and address many different persistent and emerging health issues. Health and well-being for everyone - young and old - is central to Global Goal 3. Targets vary from reducing the number of road casualties to reducing maternal mortality.

Fighting epidemics

By 2030, the epidemics of AIDS, tuberculosis, malaria and neglected tropical diseases must have come to an end. To achieve this, more attention needs to be paid to research into vaccines and medicines. Global Goal 3 also states that more attention must be paid to the prevention and treatment of drug addictions and alcohol abuse.

Sexual rights
Sexual and reproductive health-care services must be accessible to all by 2030. At the same time, better information must be made available about reproduction and family planning, so that everyone can make well-informed choices.

In short:
  • promote a healthy lifestyle;
  • promote well-being;
  • increase life expectancy;
  • reduce child and mother mortality;
  • eradicate diseases;
  • tackle health problems.
