Port of Twente has a special origin. The sluice gate in the Twente Canal near Eefde suddenly collapsed in 2012. More than 40 companies along the Twente Canal were suddenly cut off from the outside world. They were largely dependent on the canal for their supplies and transport, and this amount of transport is not simply shifted to the road. The sluice crisis quickly led to a portal in which the companies that used the Twente Canal worked together, and they kept the platform alive when the crisis was finally resolved.
